This is not uncommon, especially if you have recently switched from a different food. Many owners feed their dog the same quantity of food regardless of the brand and nutrients in it. However, as Bentley’s is very high in nutritional value and a more condensed formula, dogs do not need to eat as much as they would most other brands. If your dog has loose stools, the most common cause is through overfeeding.

You can try to slightly reduce the total amount of food you are giving every few days until you are happy with the consistency of your dogs stools. Trial and error is often used to find a suitable balance for each dog. Providing your dog is maintaining a healthy weight and you are able to pick up their stools, you should be on the right track!

We are always happy to guide you personally if you would prefer to call us and speak over the phone.

It is a fact that the DNA of our domesticated dogs are a miniscule amount away from that of a wolf, therefore our philosophy is to feed dogs as close to a natural diet as possible.

Dogs in the wild would never choose to eat cereals, maize, corn, rice etc. and are not capable of fully digesting grain products. Due to this, it can cause their pancreas to become overworked, leading to pancreatic health issues.

Besides from this, grain is also one of the most common causes of allergies for dogs. So all in all, there really is no use for grain in a dogs diet and can often cause more harm than good.

The ‘Taste of’ food is our flagship brand. These recipes are specifically formulated to contain the highest nutritional value as possible in a dry complete food.

Our ‘Superfood’ range is a good quality mid-tier recipe, offering a full and nutritious diet but not resembling a dogs ancestral diet in comparison to the ‘Taste of’ range. The ‘Superfood’ range is primarily used as a transitional food, to help dogs transition from very poor quality foods onto our Bentley’s ‘Taste of’ recipes. It acts as an ideal stepping stone to bridge the gap of nutritional value.

Both ranges of our complete food are suitable for dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages from weening. They are foods for life!

Fish has always been a staple part of a wolf or dogs natural diet depending on location!

There are many reasons why most of our food and treats are fish based. Fish is the easiest protein source to digest. It is full of natural omega oils, making it great in aiding skin & coat condition as well as allergies. Fish is also a relatively unique protein source, meaning less dogs have built up intolerances towards fish over the hundreds of years that they have been domesticated.

Different types of fish can also serve different purposes. For example, our Red Fish Jerky treats are softer and contain more omega oils, making them easy to crunch and ideal for aiding skin & coat condition. Our White Fish Jerky treats are much more crunchier, containing nearly no fat, making them perfect dental treats with no risk of overfeeding.

We are extremely particular and proud of ensuring that all of our fish is sourced from MSC Certified waters. This reduces any impact on wild fish populations and the ecosystems that they are a part of.

The animal ingredients in our complete food take quality control to new levels. Using the Freshtrusion™ process, our meat and fish is collected from farms we know and trust throughout the UK. Using refrigerated transport, it then makes its way to our manufacturer plant in Lancashire where it is gently cooked from fresh to protect the proteins and nutritional value.

None of the ingredients in our products are from China.

We hate to break it to you – but there’s no such thing as a fussy dog! Dogs are wild animals by nature and it is very important to remember this. If a dog is hungry enough, they will eat anything to survive!

Unfortunately, we as owners cause our dogs to become ‘fussy’, by offering certain foods that they tend to be more excited about eating. Dogs do not have the same taste buds as humans, so often this is simply because the food is easier to eat such as wet food or cooked table scraps which are softer in texture.

It is our philosophy that the owner should choose a food they are happy with the quality of. With the correct process in place, the dog should learn that this is their food and if they are hungry they will eat it. You should leave their bowl down for 10 minutes and regardless of how much they have eaten, lift it and offer no alternative food. Usually, this only takes a few meal times for the dog to learn that they no longer have a choice of what to eat.

Regardless of this important message, our food has always been very popular amongst dogs, with the pungent fish smell being a strong attraction!

Of course! Transitioning to a new food can always be daunting, especially if you are currently feeding a poor quality diet in comparison to the highly nutritious Bentley’s ‘Taste of’ range.

Feeding guidelines can be found on our packaging, however these figures should just be used as a starting point. You may find that you need to reduce the quantity from what is recommended due to the high nutritional value our food provides.

If you are ever concerned about how much you should be feeding, or have any questions at all; please contact us on 01206 251941.

Due to the high animal content in our complete foods, they are suitable for all life stages. It is especially important to feed Bentley’s to puppies as early as possible after weaning, since the high protein levels tremendously help their development and growth of organs.

There is no need for certain foods for specific ages and breeds and often this is used as a marketing tactic. Providing the food is high in animal content, protein and natural healthy ingredients such as ours, it will truly be fit for life.
